Who Killed Sears’ Business Model?

Once upon a time there were holiday seasons when Sears was bursting with sales and energy.

That’s when its large stores, designer women’s clothes, the cosmetics department with the Circle of Beauty and catalogue business captured the hearts and wallets of middle class American shoppers.

But in recent holidays, Sears’s business model seems to have been headed to the graveyard. The company has been closing or selling stores, has stepped up borrowing as sales continue to slide and no turnaround in sight, and selling more company brands.
