Furthermore, the geographic concentration of these new opportunities has exacerbated existing regional imbalances within South Korea. Data reveals that over 80% of the newly created generative AI-related roles are located within the greater Seoul metropolitan area. This centralization reinforces the capital’s dominance in knowledge-intensive industries and high-tech manufacturing, leaving provincial regions struggling to keep pace. The infrastructure required to support advanced AI development, including specialized data centers and research hubs, is largely clustered in the north, drawing the best talent away from the southern provinces.
