In preparation for the test operations of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, a significant milestone has been reached with the completion of a comprehensive training program. Operational staff, tasked with the smooth running of the future rail service, underwent six weeks of rigorous training at the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Training School. This training was designed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate the new rail system efficiently and safely.
Following the comprehensive training at NRC, the staff were further educated on Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s (LAMATA) quality management system (QMS). Mr. Taiwo-Ojo Francis, Head of MIS at LAMATA, spearheaded the training, which focused on the principles of QMS and their practical application in everyday operations. With a series of tests and drills, the program reinforced the importance of QMS in providing high-quality service to patrons of the Red Line.
Ready for the Rails
Engr. Olasukanmi Okusaga of LAMATA praised the dedication of the staff being trained for the upcoming Red Line operation, highlighting the career growth opportunities in the rail industry that foster both professional and personal development. LAMATA demonstrates its investment in building a capable workforce alongside its transport infrastructure.
Furthermore, LAMATA has undertaken crucial steps to ensure the Red Line offers a safe, efficient travel experience. Collaborating with Lagos police, LAMATA emphasizes security on the Red Line, while the construction of key transport interchanges at Marina and Mile 2 are advancing. The agency has also focused on community welfare, providing compensation for those affected by the new developments.
With the Red Line’s staff ready and supportive initiatives in progress, LAMATA is set to unveil a transport network that promises to greatly enhance mobility in Lagos.
